Country Waltz Basics

Actually there is no real significant difference between country and ballroom Waltzing other than most country Waltzes are done to a pattern created by a choreographer while most ballroom Waltzing is done freestyle by each couple. As in the other dance styles, once you learn the basics well you can find many videos online to learn more intermediate and advanced moves.

Waltz Basics - Note that the man leads with left heel on count 1 and presses into the floor and then a slight rise on the balls of his feet on counts 2&3. Important tips: 1. The Waltz patterns counts are consistently 123, 456 throughout the dance with few exceptions. 2. Count 1 is always the man’s left foot and count 4 is always his right foot. Depending on the choreography, the ladies can lead with the same or opposite foot. 3. Never squeeze the Charmin, which of course are the hands.

Waltz Freestyle - Freestyle simply means the couples dance to no set pattern.
